Blue cabinetry, industrial-inspired surfaces and copper fittings was what 2018 was all about. What does 2019 have in store? KSL’s design team share their favourite kitchen design trend ideas for the year ahead.
If your kitchen feels in need of a little love after Christmas, maybe you have a kitchen makeover in mind for 2019. Perhaps you’d like some new lighting or a new colour scheme? Or perhaps you are just after some inspiration? If so, help is at hand as we’ve been keeping a close eye on forthcoming kitchen design trends – these are some of our favourites.
Rebecca Brown’s favourite: Ceaserstone’s Industrial Shade Surfaces
Industrial finishes such as concrete are still drumming up lots of interest at design shows. I love the industrial colours inspired by concrete and burnished metals in the Metropolitan collection by Caesarstone. These surfaces have been designed to reflect the authentic textures of raw manufacturing such as oxidised metals and concrete. My favourite is Excava, as its rusty, copper tones add some warmth.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Turbine Grey surface from Ceaserstone in the KSL showroom very soon. The metallic effect is surprisingly subtle, you can just see a soft sparkle when the surface catches the light. We’re in the process of installing a feature piece in our new kitchen display area which is coming soon.

Katy Pearson’s favourite: Brass Accessories
Brushed brass is this year’s stand-out metal. Brass is a timeless metal that adds a touch of elegance and interest to any space. Last year there was a shift towards the warmer tones of brass and gold being used to provide a luxurious finish in kitchen design. Used for taps, handles, small appliances and even plug sockets. I recommend mixing your brass details with clean lines and a muted colour palette to keep the look modern. Use brass as an accent to a design to resist overkill!
Richard Hibberts’s favourite: Industrial Lighting
Though not a new trend, we see the industrial style continuing to be a strong theme for 2019. An easy way to inject the look into your kitchen is by choosing industrial style lighting. We’ve added a number of light fittings into our showroom recently that have an industrial feel. I personally like the contrast between the raw appearance of the light fittings with the warm hues of the light bulbs. I’m also a fan of reusing authentic industrial fixtures which can be retrofitted with newer, more efficient technology.
We hope you can take inspiration from these kitchen design trends for 2019 and get started on your kitchen project!
