This bathroom was designed to retain the traditional style of the period property. A relatively small space, requiring some TLC, was transformed into a stylish guest bathroom without imperfections.

Challenge

The client wanted a simple and elegant room that will be used predominantly by guests in her home. Due to the age of the building, despite the bathroom being small, there was still a large amount of work to do to create the bathroom that the client wanted to achieve. The room required some upkeep to improve the fabric of the structure to straighten out the walls and floor that had moved over time.

Solution

The bathroom includes traditional Lefroy Brooks sanitaryware and brassware throughout, with a Villeroy & Boch built-in bath and bespoke wooden bath panel from Bard & Blackwood, painted in Farrow & Ball Pigeon, along with a matching WC seat in the same colour.
The chrome basin stand (also Lefroy Brooks) adds elegance to the room, also doubling up as a handy towel rail. (This design was inspired by a visit by the client to the KSL showroom where these products are on display.)

The client from the outset had wanted to have tiles with a marble effect and we recommended Villeroy and Bosch tiles from the ‘New Tradition’ range to give the finish of a traditional marble, but without the added upkeep.
We added a niche in the shower area with toughened glass shelves to give just enough space for bottles to stand whilst showering, with a contrasting mosaic tile at the back.

We added spotlights to create a brighter room and complete what is a far more classic, luxurious bathroom.

The Installation

As well as designing the bathroom there were a number of requirements to complete the installation to a high standard. We carried out the following works:

  • Lowered the sloping ceiling to allow for ceiling spotlights
  • Stripped the walls right back and straightened and re-boarded the walls
  • Levelled the floor and added supports
  • Added new boarding and plaster to the ceiling
  • Levelling and straightening of the walls before tiling
  • Changed all the visible sockets to be the same throughout
